Melvyn P. Leffler

Melvyn P. Leffler is the Edward R. Stettinius Jr. professor in the department of history at the University of Virginia and Compton Visiting professor in World Politics at the Miller Center. He served as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at UVA from 1997–2001. Leffler served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense during the Carter administration, where he worked on arms control and contingency planning as a fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is the author of For the Soul of Mankind: The United States, the Soviet Union, and the Cold War.

William I. Hitchcock

William I. Hitchcock

William I. Hitchcock is a professor of history at the University of Virginia and the Randolph Compton professor at the Miller Center. He is the author of The Bitter Road to Freedom: The Human Cost of Allied Victory in World War II Europe, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. His most recent book is The Age of Eisenhower: America and the World in the 1950s.
